Places to Visit

Lincolnshire has a variety of attractions ranging from beautiful countryside walks to rich historical sites. Some of the following suggestions might be of interest for planning your visit.

Historic places of interest

Lincoln Cathedral - Towering above Lincoln, this is one of the finest medieval buildings in Europe
Lincoln Castle
- Built on a Roman fort, William the Conqueror began building Lincoln Castle in 1068
Tattershall Castle - A nearby medieval castle built in the 1440s

Woodhall Spa places of interest

Kinema in the Woods - the former Petwood cricket pavilion converted into a cinema in the 1920s. Even today films break for an intermission and a Compton Kinestra Organ emerges from under the stage.
The Cottage Museum - Founded to preserve the history of the local community.

Aviation Heritage places of interest

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre at RAF Coningsby - Operating a Lancaster, five Spitfires, two Hurricanes, two Chipmunks and a Dakota, this living and breathing tribute is not to be missed.
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby - Based on the former RAF Bomber Command airfield. Displays include an Avro Lancaster bomber and an original Barnes Wallis bouncing bomb.

Walking, cycling & riding routes

The Lincolnshire Waterways Partnership has several trails suitable for walking, cycling and riding. These easy, traffic-free routes which pass through woods and by the River Witham, are popular with wheelchair users and families with young children. Maps of 2 different local routes can be downloaded from this page (see links top right).
