We are very pleased to announce that today we have been awarded our Cycle Lincolnshire Accreditation as a Cycle Friendly location in the county. With our dedicated secure cycle storage and facilities alongside our Cycle And Go packages, the Petwood is the perfect place for exploring Bomber County on two wheels.
It never ceases to amaze us here at the Petwood when pieces of hotel history somehow make their way back to the hotel. In the case of the latest item to cross our hotel marketing executives’ desk, that history is over 100 years old and a unique record of a key moment in Petwood history.
Friday 30th September will see the hotel host another Coffee and Cake morning in aid of the MacMillan Cancer Charity.
This year the city of Stoke on Trent is showcasing a brilliant new trail in the city featuring giant multi-coloured ducks. This is a similar initiative to the Lincolnshire Imp and Knight Trails many of you will have seen in the Lincoln in the last few years. One of the ducks featured, Reggie, has been designed in honour of RJ Mitchell the designer of the Supermarine Spitfire and this week he has landed at the Petwood!
Thomas Burkitt was born in January 1892 in Calcethorpe, a small hamlet 5 miles outside of Louth, Lincolnshire to Thomas Burkitt senior, a Farm Labourer. Young Thomas didn’t appear to want to work in the fields as his father had done and by the time of the 1911 census at the age of 19, he was working at Petwood as a Gardener alongside his brother Harry aged 25.
In times such as these it is very easy to get despondent about the situation we all find ourselves in but, here at the Petwood we believe that there are still things we can all look forward to and enjoy.
We were all absolutely thrilled to be finalists in the Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence Awards on Thursday evening but truly elated to win both Hotel of the Year and Taste of Lincolnshire awards.
Thanks to unique permission from the RAF Museum Hendon, one of the most famous Victoria Crosses in British military history - that of Wing Commander Guy Gibson, Dambuster - will go on display in Lincolnshire in January 2020.
Our Front of House Team is one of the most visible in the whole hotel carrying out a wide range of tasks many of which the general public do not see. We sat down with two of our longest serving team members Jane and Karen to talk about their typical day and what they love about working at the Petwood. Between them, Jane and Karen have over 30 years’ experience working at the hotel and it's fair to say that they have seen a lot of changes and met a lot of guests over the years.
