Remembrance Week and the Petwood
During Remembrance week, we’ll be posting about people connected to the Petwood and their wartime stories. Today we are featuring a short story about Lady Grace Weigall, the original owner of the Petwood.
During WWI Lady Weigall and her husband Sir Archibald (pictured above), himself a serving soldier in the Northamptonshire Regiment who fought in the Boer War, offered Petwood up as a military hospital. The house was transformed to have several wards and even an operating theatre. The hospital opened with 40 beds in a ward which was formally the ballroom.
Keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram this week to see more people connected to the hotel and what they did during the war.
