Why we're keeping shtum about Mum
Following the success of the Valentine’s Takeaway Afternoon Tea service, Petwood Hotel’s decadent afternoon teas will be returning as a pop-up takeaway service for the weekend of 13th and 14th March. These dates may ring a bell as being the weekend of Mothering Sunday but we are marketing this as a Spring Afternoon Tea instead. Managing Director Emma Brealey explained, “We always try to be sensitive in our messaging around our Mothering Sunday events as, whilst it is a celebratory time for those of us still lucky to share the occasion with our Mums, it can be a painful time for those who no longer have the opportunity to be with their Mum or children.”
Last March it was the weekend of Mothering Sunday when hospitality establishments were mandated to close before the national lockdown was announced on 23rd March. This year’s Mothering Sunday will mark an anniversary that few would have predicted still being in lockdown. Emma continued, “This year more than ever we are distinctly aware of the loss experienced over the last 12 months in the shadow of the pandemic. It may not feel appropriate or logistically possible to celebrate Mothering Sunday as we would ordinarily like, but we hope that our takeaway afternoon teas will bring a little box of joy as we venture into Spring. Whether buying as a gift for Mum or a self-gifting lockdown treat, our Chefs will be excited to get back in the kitchen and prepare an indulgence of delectable treats.”
The Petwood’s Spring Takeaway Afternoon Tea is priced at £15 per person and is available on a pre-order only basis by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Dietary requirements are catered for and Petwood afternoon tea gift vouchers can be redeemed against this service.
